What was the game idea?

Pokemon Sword & Shield is an RPG/Adventure game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch in 2019. It introduced the 8th generation of Pokemon to the series.

The game was first teased at E3 2017. In May 2018, The Pokemon Company confirmed a Switch-exclusive title for late 2019. It was fully revealed at a Nintendo Direct in February 2019, announcing the setting and starter Pokemon. The release date was set for November 15.

Before release, the game faced heavy criticism. The biggest issue was that only 400 out of 900+ Pokemon were included. Fans launched hashtags like #dexit and #bringbacknationaldeck to boycott the game. Many new features also sparked debate.

According to Metacritic data, while the game holds an 80 rating from 88 critics, it received a user score of only 4.6 due to fan backlash.

The biggest feature separating Pokemon Go from classic Pokemon games is that it uses Augmented Reality (AR) technology to simulate the experience of catching Pokemon. To increase the feeling of catching them, you must search for Pokemon in the real world.

Funding: Pokemon Go's developer is an American company called Niantic. They started as a start-up within Google in 2010. When Google restructured under Alphabet Inc. in 2015, Niantic became independent. Later, they received a total investment of $30 million from Google, Nintendo, and The Pokemon Company.

The game can be downloaded for free from the Play Store and App Store. It contains various microtransaction options.
